Common Whelk

(Buccinum Undatum)
Our slow growing Common Whelk (Buccinum Undatum) are all harvested in the cold, clean North Atlantic waters of the Faroe Islands and processed in our factory in Oyri, where they are sorted, cooked and frozen. They are packed in 12 kg bulk cartons and ready to be delivered to our customers.
Buccinum Undatum is a large edible marine gastropod in the family Buccinidae, the true whelks. They are also called “the common whelk” or “waved buccinum”. It lives on soft bottoms and prefers colder temperatures, and cannot survive temperatures above 29°C.
It is a familiar part of the marine fauna of the Northern Atlantic and is found on the shores of the United Kingdom, France, Norway, Iceland and various other northwest European countries, some Arctic Islands and North America as far south as New Jersey.
